Even Marie Kondo can't keep tidying up after toddlers

If I could wave a magic wand over parents with small children to make them stop fretting about having a messy house or a mess life, I would. And not just the moms or dads. EVERYONE who lives at the house with the toddler. Or who comes to visit. Or who lives in the same zip code.

Having small children who are mobile is a mess.

They learn by doing. They have no concept of consequence. They don't see big picture.

They pull on things. Dump things out. Climb on things. Dump out more things. Draw on things. Dump things out. They wander around with food. Did I mention they dump things out?

So you basically have two choices:

1. Spend all of your time and energy (and I mean all of your time and energy) picking up after them.
2. Step over the mess and spend time with them and with your life.

But we don't always believe that.

I know I didn't.

I spent a lot of energy wondering what was wrong with me. Why I couldn't keep up the house as a SAHM. I mean, I as at home, right? Then my last youngest turned 5 and I was able to keep up a bit more and I remembered, "oh right, they get older".

But don't take it from me. (I didn't.) Take it from Marie Kondo. The world expert on the magic of tidying up who has a best selling book and a Netflix series. The woman who claps her hands at the sight of clutter she gets to gleefully put to right. The woman who had two kids after she wrote her book and who now admits she can't keep up tidying anymore with toddlers.

OH YES.

So if you have someone in your life who raises their eyebrows at your mess, leave them alone with the kid/s for a month and see how they do. Haha. Ok, that's not a real suggestion, just a daydream. Instead, don't invite them over. You have cuddling and gorgeous time with your kid/s to spend.

Piles make great places for hide-and-seek after all.
